Training for health care professionals in the care of victims of violence

A training course on violence victim care for medical professionals by the University of Nebraska was held jointly with Akita University. The training sessions were held for three days per session, with three courses held in September, November, and February. Training content included various victims of violence and the latest victim support content, as well as the importance of collaboration among other professions. Participants were recruited from the public, and their learning effects were evaluated before and after the training.

At the symposium, each of the three symposiasts presented a topic, which was followed by a discussion including participants. Prof.Yoneyama stressed the importance of supporters understanding that secondary PTSD can occur even among those who support victims of sexual violence, and of expanding the circle of support based on this understanding.

The results of this study showed that the participants' understanding of and response to sexual violence nursing increased significantly after taking the e-learning program. The level of understanding significantly increased after the training, confirming the learning effect of the e-learning program.

The content of the e-learning Basic Training Program in Nursing Response to Sexual Violence content was evaluated. Of the 79 respondents to the pre-survey, 61 used the content. The training content was divided into four sessions, each of which received a score of 4 or higher out of 5 for being useful for the job, the audiovisual materials were effective, the materials were easy to understand, the content was organized, and the content was well prepared. This confirms a certain level of effectiveness of the basic training content.
