Introduction: In recent years, there has been an increase in noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT), where maternal blood samples are used to extract fetal cell-free DNA. Despite this being offered in several facilities in urban areas, NIPT remains to be scarcely unavailable in rural areas. Moreover, there is lacking information with regard to how pregnant women in rural areas perceive NIPT. Thus, in this study, we conducted a survey among pregnant women who came to our clinic for NIPT and examined their views on NIPT and genetic counseling.Methods: A questionnaire survey was administered to pregnant women who requested NIPT and underwent genetic counseling at our hospital between November 2016 and February 2020. The questionnaire was administered twice, once after completing the genetic counseling and once after explaining the NIPT results. The number of genetic counseling and NIPT sessions and positive test results, as well as anxiety about the test and evaluation of genetic counseling and NIPT, were assessed.Results: In total, 115 patients received genetic counseling, of which 109 underwent NIPT. The test results were found to be positive in six patients. As per our findings, 103 patients (93%) indicated they needed genetic counseling for NIPT, whereas 99 (93%) were satisfied with the counseling they received from a genetic medicine specialist. On the other hand, 82 patients (77%) requested for more testing facilities.Conclusions: The enhancement of genetic counseling systems is essential to expand the environment in which NIPT is performed. Therefore, we need to consider the need to make the NIPT testing environment more conducive and inform clients of the importance of genetic counseling in NIPT.

A 28-year-old woman exhibited a spiking fever, arthritis, and liver disfunction when she was 22 weeks pregnant. She was diagnosed with adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD). As her condition was resistant to corticosteroid therapy, tocilizumab (TCZ) was selected. The TCZ treatment was effective, and she delivered a healthy child while receiving TCZ treatment. Cases in which AOSD first arises during pregnancy are rare, and there have been no reports of TCZ treatment for AOSD being initiated during pregnancy. Although the safety of TCZ treatment during pregnancy has not been established, it may be effective against severe AOSD that develops during pregnancy.

In this paper, we present a wearable hardness sensor for internal examination. We have developed a wearable tactile sensor that allows conventional internal examination without impairing the user's sense of touch at the sensing. It is possible to adopt an appropriate sensing posture by the user's sensorimotor control. The developed sensor is based on the principle of acoustic reflection and evaluates the hardness of an object by the measurement of the pressure distribution through two acoustic paths with different hardness. The sensor was made with soft materials, making it suitable for internal examination from the standpoint of safety. Evaluation experiments using models of the cervix with different hardness showed that the developed sensor discriminated the hardness, indicating that the sensor might be available for internal examination.

We aim to develop a softness sensor to evaluate cervical canal during internal examination. In this paper, we designed a soft wearable sensor that does not impair the tactile sensation of the fingertip, and evaluated the effect of the presence of tactile sensation on the pressing angle during the internal examination. The sensor covers the fingertip and has a hole on the fingertip to touch the target tissue. The experimental result showed that participants using the sensor with a hole successfully controlled the pressing angle. In addition, we proposed an improvement of the sensor on the basis of the result.

In this paper, we used a flexible wearable tactile sensor that utilizes acoustic reflection, and investigated hardness estimation based on the sensor output using human spontaneous haptic exploratory motion. Machine learning methods with support vector machine and convolutional neural networks were adopted to the acquired sensor output for the identification of hardness of cervical models. As a result, the correct answer rates of both learning models were 100 ％ for the soft model and about 80 ％ for the hard and medium models.

Introduction: Ovarian auto-amputation is extremely rare and is most commonly attributed to chronic adnexal torsion and subsequent devascularization that precipitate infarction and necrosis. We describe a woman (Jehovah's witness) who presented with an inflamed abdominal cyst, which was diagnosed as an auto-amputated endometrial ovarian cyst, following laparoscopic surgery.Case presentation: A 45-year-old Jehovah's witness was referred to our hospital with acute abdominal pain. She had complained of dysmenorrhea prior to referral. Laboratory data revealed evidence of severe inflammation (white blood cell count 12400 cells/μL, C-reactive protein 17.4 mg/dL). MRI revealed a cystic pelvic tumor with features of a benign ovarian cyst. She received intravenous antibiotics with resolution of inflammation following this conservative therapy after which we performed laparoscopic surgery for removal of the pelvic mass. Intraoperatively, we performed careful adhesiolysis followed by meticulous exploration of the pelvic cavity. We performed cystectomy and left adnexectomy with insertion of multiple drains into the peritoneal cavity.Discussion: Based on the laparoscopic and histopathological findings, the patient was diagnosed with chemical panperitonitis associated with a wandering ovarian endometrial cyst.Conclusion: We report successful but significantly challenging laparoscopic intervention for a wandering ovarian endometrial cyst in a woman with chemical peritonitis.
