草津酸性泉は湯川、白砂川を経て吾妻川へと流入する。草津酸性泉由来のレアアース、トリウム、ウランは下流に向かうにつれ、懸濁物に吸着する。ウランは弱酸性領域まで懸濁物への吸着が生じるが、中性~弱アルカリ性領域ではCO3錯体を形成するため吸着は起こりにくくなり、溶存成分として流下する。レアアースは単純にpH上昇により懸濁物への吸着が促進されるが、軽希土類の方が吸着されにくい傾向がある。

黒鉱鉱床中で,重晶石は鉱床上部に,石英は鉱床下部に分布する.このような分布が生じる理由は,化学平衡モデルからは説明できない.一方で,熱水,海水の流動性を考慮した完全混合モデルによる沈殿速度計算では,実際の黒鉱鉱床で見られる鉱物間の分離が起こり得ることが判明した.また,海水,熱水の混合により段階的に地球化学条件が変化する多段階モデルによる速度論計算では,海底下での熱水と海水の混合により沈殿し得ることが示され,海底面上で生成すると考えられる重晶石との産状の違いと一致する結果となった.

秋田県渋黒川―玉川は玉川温泉由来の酸性水が流入する.流下過程のpHが上昇するに従い,鉄水酸化物が生成され,上流から下流に向けてヒ素,ガリウム,インジウムの順でこれらに吸着される.これらを吸着した鉄水酸化物は下流の玉川ダムによる人造湖(宝仙湖)湖底に沈殿する.ヒ素,ガリウムは上流部で吸着されることから,河川流域の堆積物に広範囲に分布するのに対し,玉川ダムによる人造湖(宝仙湖)入口付近で吸着するインジウムは宝仙湖湖底に選択的に濃集される.また,鉄の酸化反応は暖かい季節に起こりやすいので,ヒ素,ガリウムは夏場により効率的に吸着される傾向がある.
